I Conference of UNESCO Chairs in Natural Sciences held in Geneva

UNESCO Chairs and UNITWIN Networks in science play an important role in linking science, politics and society by adopting open scientific practices to implement the 2030 Program.
The 2030 Program, adopted in 2015 by the United Nations, represents a major step forward in the recognition of science, technology and innovation (STI) as a development engine in its three pillars, environmental, social and economic. As the only UN agency to include science in its mandate, UNESCO is at the heart of this initiative.

The UNESCO Chairs and the UNITWIN networks linked to the Natural Sciences met for the first time in Geneva from 5 to 7 July 2017 in the “I Mobilization of UNESCO Chairs of Natural Sciences for Political Action towards the 2030 Program.” The results of the reflections on how UNESCO Chairs can contribute to the achievement of the 2030 Program has been reflected in the document The Geneva Milestone which contributes to guiding the future efforts of UNESCO Chairs in Natural Sciences in close collaboration with UNESCO and the National Commissions of UNESCO.

The Unesco Chair of the Triptolemos Foundation and UNED “Science and Innovation for Sustainable Development: Global Food Production and Food Safety” was present at the conference as an important representative of the agri-food sector, a strategic sector in the global economy that affects the whole population in one another grade Research and innovation in this field is a general interest in society, while it has a direct impact on the health and well-being of citizens, and research and advances in this field are of increasing social and economic interest.

The UNESCO Chair of the TRIPTOLEMOS-UNED Foundation aims to promote and implement actions that transform knowledge into economic and social wealth, with an independent vision in line with science and its evolution, which will result in greater effectiveness and confidence in the system food, with the bases of sustainability, a sufficient and balanced food availability and the formation of criteria in the citizen.
